#53 Creativity for non-creatives!
Hello!
I hope you’re doing well. Long time no see :P ! Did I ever tell you that I used to write subject lines for marketing emails of a website that only sold discounted products?
“Don't Miss This. Leggings @Re 1”
“We've got something spine tingling for you! Buy 1 Get 1 Free”
At that time I was creative only to contribute towards other people’s design projects. I had never done much of drawing and painting when I was younger as I left it up to my siblings to be the creative ones. But in 2018 I stumbled across the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron and it helped me unlock something in myself. I stopped calling my drawings stupid and just kept drawing whatever came to my mind.
In the past two years, I found myself obsessively doodling in class. I drew the desks, the electric socket, my teacher's face and her outfits, the back of the head of the person sitting in front of me, imaginary people, trees, lines, my own hand. I did it so impatiently that I eventually saw myself slowly getting better at it. Very slowly.
What Julia Cameron does is essentially therapy and gets you out of your shell. I went back to her book recently and realised that I want everyone to be able to find a way to express themselves in more than one way. Through video editing, photos, art, creating their own cute websites, fanzines, whatever it is. I of course recommend reading the Artist's Way (you can borrow it from me - I have a digital and a physical copy). But if you don’t have so much time, I made a “digital product”. A "Creativity Stack" for Non-Creatives which is a concise version of what the Artist's Way is trying to achieve. I know that most of my subscribers are already creative in many different ways, but going through this one-week stack might be helpful to find a new perspective :) Or share it with someone who might benefit from it.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to share with you today!
See you around :)
