#44 Returning to old things
I had a Blogger blog when I was 15 years old, which is now defunct. I actively posted on it from 2005 to 2008 and then irregularly until 2011. It was called Dead Letters, named after an album of an emo-rock band called The Rasmus. I recently revisited it, and it was so cringe! I cannot overstate how terrible the blog was. I reviewed movies like, Krissh, The Da Vinci Code and wrote about ‘how I don’t know what to write about’. It truly was one of those silly early-internet blogs. But I loved it! I had around 10 followers, a few of them were my friends whom I knew in real life. And the rest were virtual strangers. They used their full names and ran their own well-designed blogs (at least for that time). My unknown blog followers were all boys, and they were surprisingly kind in the comments, considering my bad grammar, my naive point of view and constant whining. They put my blog in their Blog Roll and I put theirs in mine*. They wrote about life, science, poetry and posted their photography. Honestly, had it not been for them, I think I would have never learnt how to express myself, despite my obvious limitations.
Even though this was a project that occupied me back then, I still wasn’t consistent enough with it. I wrote when inspiration struck me. And this is something I have realised stayed consistent with all my creative projects, that they’ve been inconsistent. I am on #44 of my newsletter today and I hope I can reach #100 and move onto something else after that. My pursuit is to face a blank sheet of paper every week with an aim to share something with you and hopefully find my own writing style, be able to communicate better and keep a commitment with myself.
You will be receiving a weekly newsletter on Sunday, 3pm CET. I am going to write one newsletter in English and one in French (hopefully) in alternate weeks. I am making my goals public hoping that I would stick to them (:
Thanks for stopping by again!
Cheers,
Vega
*Side note: Essentially Substack just revived the classic Blog Roll feature through its recommendation feature and everyone seems to love it.
