The above photo is a testament of what happened last week in Toulouse. The heatwave is real and I stayed in the dark at home with my shutters closed in order to avoid the sun. And while doing so, I fell into the Youtube hole of “I switched to Nokia 2720 V flip and I will never get a smart phone again”. To pull myself out of this abyss, I did what everyone does, I looked for advice on Reddit. Someone said, stop fighting your doom scroll and take notes of everything you find on the internet. So I did.
My notes were quite colourful and frankly about nothing.
On scrolling through twitter, one person raved about the movie Knives out. And this Youtube user’s comment made me think, yes, I must watch this “mind-boggling movie”.
It’s not as WOAH as he says, but it put the fun back in the murder mystery genre. It is a 2019 movie so you should be able to find it somewhere. I RECOMMEND IN ALL CAPS!
I learnt from TikTok about a lady selling pink sauce for $20 to her followers which is apparently just mayonnaise, water, chilli and dragon fruit which you should not buy. And about a vintage store in Copenhagen that’s "realllly” nice so if someone is visiting now or in the future, take a note.
I am thinking of making zucchini, feta and tomato fritters after watching Chef John’s new video. I read something on the lack of intimacy in interior design at homes. He says how hiding away everything in cupboards and owning less makes a home look like an office or a warehouse rather than a cozy space that’s used everyday, has life, has textures, has clutter. He makes a case for anti-minimalism.
I have been obsessed with looking for stationery online that I can’t afford and frankly might also not be that good an investment. But anything for good paper on which ink doesn’t leak right? Hobonichi makes these 5-year diaries in Tomoe River paper which is around 52 gsm (thinner than baking sheets I think). Midori, which is another Japanese stationery brand released a 10 year notebook which looks equally pretty with its red bound-book style. I will buy neither of them but I will continue watching reviews and unboxing videos of these notebooks. (Tip: cheaper dupes in terms of paper quality can be found at Stalogy).
Other things I bumped into:
Ranveer Singh naked on Paper Mag and people want to get the carpet dry-cleaned. / An important Hindi movie plot (not for the faint hearted) / Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are finally married. I verified that the boy J.Lo is dating in Jenny from the block video is indeed Ben Affleck himself. We’ve come a full circle, haven’t we. / Shalaka ki shaadi / Usher’s Tiny Desk - is this the best one of all time, or what? (Although, my favourite is T-Pain). / A Bappi Lahiri song I did not know about!
